Restaurant Review for a Concept Restaurant Which Promises Everything Will Be Overcooked

It was my pleasure this week to visit Well Done, the newest endeavor in themed cuisine. Owned by the owner of All You May Eat and Raw Bar, the idea this time is captured by the restaurant’s motto, “Overcooked, just like Mom used to make.”

To begin with, when they say “Well Done,” they don’t meant the food is well-prepared. In fact, it is all burned. It is burned with love, intention — and probably inattention— but from your soup to your dessert, your entire meal will be varying degrees of char.

The wait staff was friendly, but refused to speak a word throughout the meal, regardless if we were asking for more water, more napkins or an explanation for the mass on our plate. We were never sure if that was to protect them or us.

We ordered the wilted lettuce and the spinach with warm dressing salads to begin, hoping to find artfully wilted greens, accessorized with colorful accents. Still not fully onboard with the concept, we were mildly surprised to realize that our lettuce was in fact a bowl of very wilted lettuce and a bag of spinach drowned in an oil bath. A taste or two was enough for us and we turned to the menu with a renewed sense of adventure. After a long conversation, we settled on the following for our meal:
